A young restaurant entrepreneur is opening a fresh and locally sourced space near the LA river bed, and basing its design on the esthetic of artist, Devon Tsuno and his work, Burnt Palm.
While LA is always at the cusp of what's new, the current movement is appreciating its own amenities and community. Devon’s work brings to view a mixture of deep intentional color. He includes in his painting imagery of water photographed in the LA river bed and several plants found through out the area. He says only in LA can you find such a mish-mash of non-native plants that seem to just thrive in harmony together.
The color palette on his painting is quite a variety itself but I drew from it the complementary color scheme of blue green and red orange. These colors were implemented in several places. The primary fabric for the booth backing replicates the fun movement seen from the water in the art piece as well as the blue green color. The blue green color is also seen in the corduroy fabric used to line the benches on the sides of the fireplace area. To incorporate the red orange, the color was brought in through the rich wood tables, and the textured vinyl barstool fabric. More subtle hints of the red orange can be found in the veins of the countertop as well as in light lines in the bamboo flooring material.
As for the other fabrics and materials, they continue with the concept of the art and the restaurant's theme. The black velvet for accent on the booth seat has a water like line movement when viewed up close. Also the valance material has the reflective look of water movement without actually having any metallic or shiny materials. The wallpaper also conveys the idea, with all the line and shapes repeated throughout it, the imagery of the art. The barstool and booth fabrics are stain resistant and will wear well for the commercial restaurant.
The look of the space and it’s fabrics and finishes should be exactly what our entrepreneur is looking for. LA will be proud to add this restaurant to its collection of many. LA Water will be the new “it” place for those that appreciate LA and all of it’s unique aspects.
